Dan Barry found himself with 6 weeks to kill whilst waiting for his new job to start in China - so he decided to get his PPL - as you do!
DAN BARRY - THE LEGEND
2005 ACHIEVER

He did a fast track course attending almost every day, flying up to 4 hours a day sometimes, and when the weather was not compliant he busied himself with ground exams (never getting less than 95% and at least 3 were 100%).

He went solo after the first week in G-JASE!

He took his Skills Test just 5 days before his departure!

After several attempts someone finally offered him a job and a chance to end his student days –
the only catch being he’d have to go all the way to Beijing, China.

Once having sold all his earthly possessions in preparation for his departure, Dan decided to use a six week gap in his calendar to realise his dream of learning to fly.

Now that he has his PPL Dan hopes to work his way up to a Multi-Engine Sea PlaneRating so that in the distant future he can spend his holidays flying from island to island in French Polynesia.

His next challenge? To learn Mandarin in 6 months - given Dan’s dedicated attitude it should be a
cynch for this 24 year old.

We wish him well in the future and hope to see him soon when he pops back to the UK in the new Year.

Here’s Dan’s story:

Originally from London, Dan came to Cambridge in 2000 to take his undergraduate degree in Biology, but loved the place so much he extended his studies to five years total.
